A soft-furnishings studio, not a curtain shop

Home Specialists started in 2001 with two machinists, one upholsterer and a showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road. Twenty-five years later the showroom is still on Sheikh Zayed Road, at Mazaya Centre, and the workshop has grown to do everything a room needs in fabric: curtains and blinds, cushions, re-upholstery, headboards and custom-built sofas and majlis.

We have stayed deliberately small enough that the person who measures your windows is the person who checks them before they leave the workshop. Most of our work comes from people we have worked for before, or their neighbours.

What we believe

Measure everything twice. Dubai buildings are rarely square. We measure at three heights and both diagonals, and we make to the smallest, not the average.

Tell the truth about fabric. Some beautiful fabrics will not survive a west-facing window or a family with a dog. We say so, and we show you what will.

Own the whole job. When the measuring, making and fitting are done by different companies, every problem is someone else's. Here they are all ours.

The workshop

Our workshop is in Al Quoz, ten minutes from the showroom. It has a cutting table long enough for a seven-metre curtain, industrial straight-stitch and blind-hem machines, a frame shop for custom sofas, and a foam-cutting bench. Clients are welcome to visit and see their pieces in progress; ask when you book.
